Slippage tolerance refers to the change in price that occurs due to market movements between when a transaction request is created and when it is executed. In other words, it is the difference between the expected transaction price when you click 'Swap' and the actual execution price.
You have to be more careful during periods of strong market volatility and set this setting to an amount you are comfortable with.
